Best Glasgow restaurants honoured at glittering awards

The inaugural Glasgow Restaurant Awards was hailed a huge success at the weekend as the best of the city’s restaurants, cafes, chefs and writers were awarded an array of prestigious prizes.

Hosted by singer Michelle McManus at the Citizens’ Theatre, the glittering ceremony  saw coveted trophies handed out for winners in categories such as Best Newcomer, Best Supplier, Best Critic, Posh Nosh, Best Kitchen Porter and Best Design Re-fit.

Notable wins went to Mother India, for Best Non-European restaurant in Glasgow and Two Fat Ladies at the Buttery for the Posh Nosh award.  Café Gandolfi took home two awards, one for best “Casual” restaurant and another, a Lifetime Achievement Award.

A special "Extra Mile Award", which was sponsored by Glasgow Service with Style, went to Mike Donald and the team at Biadh.

The award was presented by Graeme Gibson, General Manager of the city’s Radisson blu Hotel, and Chair of Glasgow Service with Style.

Stella Callaghan, Glasgow Service with Style Project Manager said: “We are delighted to have been able to sponsor the Extra Mile Award and to support the work of the Glasgow Restaurant Association in bringing this prestigious first event to fruition.

“It is important that we reward great tourism and hospitality businesses and recognise quality service within the city’s restaurants, cafes and hotels. These establishments are the future of tourism in Glasgow.”

 Scott Taylor, Chief Executive of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, was also reported as saying: “The restaurant awards highlight the very best of the industry in Glasgow.

“The city’s vibrant restaurant scene is a major draw for visitors and provides much-valued employment opportunities for its citizens. We’re spoiled for choice, quality and variety.”
