Book a place at Scottish Tourism Week

16 Jan 2012

The theme of this year’s Scottish Tourism Week – from March 6 to 13 – is a pertinent one: Competing For Growth. While the UK economy is still facing an uphill battle in general, in relative terms the tourism industry has shown remarkable resilience.

It is fair to describe tourism as Scotland's most sustainable industry. Scottish tourism has continued to demonstrate its importance and potential for the economy, creating real and long-term employment. That’s why the seventh Scottish Tourism Week will be raising awareness of the nation’s vital industry.

As Stephen Leckie, Chair of the Scottish Tourism Forum, which is organising Scottish Tourism Week, states: “The planned events for this Scottish Tourism Week will build on the success of the six previous Weeks in fostering a positive political climate for future growth, which will, in turn, support and attract greater levels of private investment.

“In Scottish Tourism Week, private, public and elected sectors will once again work towards a positive single agenda to drive forward tourism across Scotland. “

The Scottish Tourism Week events will be some of the most informative events on this year's tourism calendar, so staff, managers and leaders are being encouraged to book their places now to ensure they don't miss out on the opportunity to be involved.

Some of the planned events include:

* STW Conference 'Competing for Growth' on Tuesday March 6 at Murrayfield Stadium Conference Centre, Edinburgh. Delegates will join other industry professionals to hear from Fergus Ewing MSP, Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism; Stephen Leckie; and Malcolm Roughead of VisitScotland, amongst others. * STW Industry Dinner on Wednesday March 7 at The Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. This prestigious event will bring together the private, public and elected sectors in an informal setting to allow debate and discussions with the aim of encouraging more collaboration for the overall benefit of the tourism sector and for Scotland generally.
