Boost your sales with Scottish food and drink

25 Nov 2010

Tourism Intelligence Scotland has launched the latest guide in its "Opportunities for Growth" series, "Food and Drink Experience in Scotland."

Recent figures show that more than £800 million is spent by overnight visitors to Scotland each year on food and drink. However, research suggests that visitors would spend an average of £1 more on food and drink at businesses with a real Scottish offering.

The guide will provide you with facts and figures about the market, an understanding of what visitors want from our food, ideas for adding local flavour to menus, tips on sourcing locally and collaborating with Scottish food suppliers and lots more!

‘This new addition to the Tourism Intelligence Scotland ‘Opportunities for Growth’ guide series, Food and Drink Experience in Scotland, is a fantastic resource for all tourism businesses to help them to improve and develop the culinary experience we offer in Scotland. We have an exceptional natural larder on our doorstep, and we know that our fresh produce and unique Scottish dishes are highly anticipated by our visitors as an integral part of their tourism experience.’ Andrew Fairlie, Chef Patron, Restaurant Andrew Fairlie.

To complement this Scottish Enterprise has also developed a practical resource in partnership with TIS: ‘At Your Service’ is packed with practical information for front line staff in tourism businesses, providing easy reference facts about different food types, a visual calendar of seasonality, background information on classic Scottish dishes and drinks, and hints and tips on how to ‘upsell’ to customers.

"Food and Drink Experience in Scotland" and “At Your Service” are available free to Scottish Tourism businesses who register at www.tourism-intelligence.co.uk  which provides a wealth of helpful insights and tips for businesses. So don’t miss out and register now!

Please note that hard copies of ‘Food and Drink Experience in Scotland’ will ONLY be sent out to businesses that have registered on the TIS website.

The launch of the guides is the latest initiative from Tourism Intelligence Scotland (TIS), a joint venture developed by Scottish Enterprise, Highlands & Islands Enterprise and VisitScotland, in partnership with the tourism industry, to stimulate growth and innovation in tourism.
