Glasgow golden ball raises £20,000 for hospitality charity

10 Dec 2010

Some 300 guests attended a glittering golden ball last week to raise vital funds for Scottish hospitality charity, HIT Scotland.

The evening at  the Grand Central Hotel, Glasgow, raised a fantastic £20,000.

Guests enjoyed a specially prepared menu by the hotel's Executive Chef James Murphy with dessert provided by Gleneagles Hotel. The entertainment came from Jim McMail and The Fraternity. DJ Bobby Coates then played the guests into the night.

All money raised from the event will support the HIT Scotland Scholarship programme. This year, HIT Scotland will award 100 scholarships to students and talented people at all levels in the industry at their Emerging Talent conference in February.

Previous scholars have gone behind the scenes of Michelin-starred kitchens, been awarded places at Ivy League Cornell University and at Europe's top hospitality school. Other placements include the Disney Institute in Florida and six-star resorts in Dubai.

Stephen Murphy, chair of the Event Committee, said: “The ball was a huge success. By braving the wintry conditions the guests showed how much passion Scotland has for the hospitality industry.”
