Glasgow tourist attraction wins another top award

27 May 2011

Glasgow Service With Style is delighted to hear of another award success for am innovative city tourist attraction, Glasgow School of Art Enterprises Ltd, which manage the GSA Shop and run tours of the Mackintosh building.
This national award goes to the museum, gallery, heritage or cultural visitor attraction that best shows an opportunity seized, a product created or service delivered. And one that “creatively secures a significant increase in public benefit, capital or income for the attraction or museum”.
This prize comes in addition to GSAE’s other recent awards success, having won both the Heritage Experience and Retail Tourism categories at VisitScotland’s Scottish Thistle Awards in 2010.
The company has more than doubled its financial contributions to the Glasgow School of Art since 2008. Visitor numbers on the tours of the iconic Mackintosh Building increased to 26,000 during 2010.  Employing only GSA students and graduates to lead these tours helps visitors gain a thorough insight into not only GSA’s heritage but also the contemporary workings of the school.
Cathie Randall, general manager of GSAE said: “GSAE’s teams are delighted to receive such an accolade.  As a small business competing with some of the largest national institutions in the UK, winning the Winstan Bond Trophy clearly demonstrates that even the tiniest attractions can be truly entrepreneurial, and that there is a definite need for young, creative people in the museums and heritage industry.
“The company’s recent successes combined with record-breaking results last year and the imminent development of our campus make this a very exciting time for The Glasgow School of Art.”
Stella Callaghan, of Glasgow Service with Style, said: “This is fantastic news for the Glasgow School of Art Enterprises and for Glasgow as a whole. It’s so encouraging to see entrepreneurial and innovate concepts in our city being recognised in prestigious UK awards.”
