Glasgow VIC to open doors to career hopefuls

10 Feb 2011

VisitScotland is opening its doors to students and the general public as part of a special careers promotion week.

On Friday March 4, the Glasgow Visitor Information Centre will welcome Job Centre Plus and Careers Development Scotland staff, school, college and university teachers, student groups and members of the public in a bid to encourage more people to see the hospitality and tourism industry as an exciting career prospect.

The open doors day at Glasgow VIC, offered in partnership with Glasgow Service with Style, is part of the wider Scottish Tourism Week from February 28 to March 7. Many other businesses across Scotland are being encouraged to thrown open their doors and promote the tourism industry as a great place to work.

The campaign, which is being co-ordinated by Springboard Scotland, offers an exciting opportunity to provide a week of focused, high profile activities promoting careers in the Scottish tourism, hospitality and leisure industry, as well as attracting new talent.

In partnership with VisitScotland, key Visitor Information Centres will open their doors to school and student groups and members of the public in order to showcase the scale of the tourist industry in Scotland and to provide information about career opportunities.

Visitors will receive a tour of the VIC, and be able to chat with staff about their job roles and experience of working in the industry.

As well as Glasgow VIC, other participating centres are: Oban, Kirkwall, Portree, Inverness, Aberdeen, Perth, St Andrews, Stirling, Dumfries and Jedburgh.
