Makeover for Scottish Thistle Awards

25 Oct 2011

VisitScotland will now run a programme of four localised Scottish Thistle Award celebrations in April and May next year.

The four regional award areas will be: South/Central West (including Glasgow), Highlands and Islands, North East and South/Central East.

Winners of each region will progress to represent the region at the final awards ceremony.

Malcolm Roughead, Chief Executive of VisitScotland, said: “Since 1992 the Scottish Thistle Awards have led the way in terms of recognising the brilliant tourism organisations and businesses that this country has to offer.

“The new format will allow us to extend this further, reaching all regions in Scotland, which will not only allow us to recognise those who are making a real difference, but also to unlock the massive potential in others.”

Entries for the new Scottish Thistle Awards open on November 15. See http://www.scottishthistleawards.co.uk/

A greater range of regional tourism businesses and initiatives is set to be recognised in a revamped Scottish Thistle Awards. Following in-depth consultation by VisitScotland, the new Awards will have a wider regional format which aims to celebrate tourism excellence across the country throughout the year.
