Merchant City Tomorrow – Connecting Businesses

19 Oct 2010

The Merchant City Tourism and Marketing Co Op held a highly successful masterclass and networking event on “Social Media Marketing and the Merchant City” on the evening of 5th October.

This event, which was supported by Glasgow Service with Style, took place in the fabulous surroundings of the newly refurbished Corinthian in Ingram Street, and included an introduction to the work of the Merchant City Tourism and Marketing Co Op in promoting the Merchant City.

Gordon Matheson, chair of MCTMC and Leader of Glasgow City Council, introduced the proceedings. More than 60 business representatives of the Merchant City attended and were treated to an entertaining and thought provoking presentation by musician and journalist Pat Kane. Pat’s presentation with ideas and suggestions for translating the Merchant City buzz online can be seen at http://www.theplayethic.com/2010/10/socialmediaandmerchantcity.html

The presentation was followed by a wide ranging and lively discussion between local businesses on the use of social media to promote individual businesses and the Merchant City. The Merchant City Tourism and Marketing Co Op are grateful for support from Glasgow Service with Style for the event and ongoing project support from Scottish Enterprise and VisitScotland.
