At Your Service guide is your key to boosting sales

15 Dec 2010

The good news is that overnight visitors to Scotland already spend more than £800 million each year on food and drink. But this figure could be higher still. According to recent research, visitors say they would spend an average of £1 more on food and drink at businesses with a “real Scottish offering”.

Now a new guide, brought to the industry by Tourism Intelligence Scotland (TIS), offers a host of practical information about how front-line staff in tourism and hospitality can better sell the “Scottish experience”.

While your chef is in charge of preparing the food, your waiters and waitresses are more likely to be the “face” of your food business. Most managers and owners will be aware that the best waiting staff work closely with their chefs and are part of a great team, delivering a wonderful food experience to their customers and creating lasting memories.

The "At Your Service" guide has been designed by Scottish Enterprise to offer the best practical advice and tips for front-line tourism staff. The guide includes:

  • Easy reference facts about different food types.

  • A visual calendar of seasonality.

  • Background information on classic Scottish dishes and drinks.

  • Hints on how to “upsell” to customers.

At Your Service has been launched by TIS in partnership with another invaluable guide called Food and Drink Experience in Scotland. Both guides are available free to Scottish Tourism businesses who register at www.tourism-intelligence.co.uk

* TIS is a joint venture developed by Scottish Enterprise, Highlands & Islands Enterprise and VisitScotland, in partnership with the tourism industry, to stimulate growth and innovation in tourism.
