New resources and events for trainers, leaders and staff

24 Jan 2012

The recent Glasgow Welcomes Trainer Development Workshop provided the ideal opportunity for trainers to find out about a host of updated and new material available to staff, managers and leaders in the city’s tourism and hospitality sector.

Delegates heard from GTSI Project Manager Stella Callaghan as she revealed many of the new resources, including:

A new version of the useful and handy Glasgow information booklet called Be First to Know. Produced by GTSI and the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, the 2012 update now includes 2012 Olympics and 2014 Commonwealth Games fast facts. The booklets are available from http://www.glasgowservicewithstyle.com/
A tailored trainer and staff training course for Glasgow Taxis. The aim is to offer the Glasgow Welcomes initiative training to drivers of some 2,000 city black cabs and a host of private hire cabbies.
A new Taxi Manual, produced by Glasgow City Marketing Bureau. This is unique in the UK and offers a huge amount of information about Glasgow and its events and attractions, as well as useful advice for taxi drivers. If other businesses would like to see this manual contact http://www.glasgowservicewithstyle.com/

A Glasgow Welcomes programme for schools.
An issuing of more regular information from the Glasgow Visitors Survey to businesses in hospitality and tourism so that they can use this to better shape their own in-hour training courses for staff.
A programme of more Glasgow Welcomes Masterclasses.
The pilot of language and cultural awareness courses for businesses. Welcome Spanish Visitors and Welcome French Visitors workshops will teach staff some basic language conversation tailored to be useful within their own businesses. These courses will be run by GTSI… and more will be rolled out if these first pilot courses prove popular.
A 2012 programme of Glasgow Welcomes Familiarisation Visits to the Clyde waterfront, Rennie Mackintosh attractions and the Merchant City.
