28 Jul 2011

A survey has revealed that 80% of respondents plan to make a change in their business after attending the recent Glasgow Service with Style One Year On event. Delegates at the successful event, which took place at the Scottish Youth Theatre in Glasgow’s Merchant City, were asked to express their opinions and many of the responses were extremely positive.

The survey results found:

·     100% rated the One year On event “well worth” or “worth” attending. (This is up from 92% last year.)
·     More than 80% will take specific points back to implement in their business;
63% agreed that attending the event would make a difference to the way that their business works.
The One year On Event was attended by 200 guests. The aim was to mark first anniversary of the already successful Glasgow Service with Style initiative.
Business leaders, city partners and tourism and hospitality staff gathered to hear of the impressive results of the Glasgow Tourism Service Initiative project that aims to increase service standards across the city’s tourism industry.
The One Year On evening also offered the opportunity to hear from several key speakers, including the inspiring former General Manager of Glasgow’s Copthorne Hotel, Amanda Hyndman.
Now General Manager at the prestigious Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington DC, Amanda made a special return visit to the city to reveal to guests her own experience and insights into the fast-expanding world of hospitality.
Indeed, the survey results also found that 100% of respondents rated Amanda’s talk as excellent/good.
After the event, many of the delegates were keen to offer their views.
Riddell Graham, director of partnerships at VisitScotland, said: “I’ve already used the (Glasgow Service with Style) Initiative as a shining example of best practice in collaboration!”
Janet MacRae, a hospitality & retail consultant at Ellis Mack Recruitment, said that Amada Hyndman’s presentation was “Informative and inspirational’ She added: “Amanda discussed interesting points that were transferable to any service industry.  I think Glasgow Service with Style is a fantastic way of promoting talent and advertising Glasgow as the brilliant city that it is.”

Meanwhile, Victor Brierley, of Glasgow Whisky Tours, summed up the evening: “Everyone who mattered in Scottish Tourism was there.”
And it seems that many people (97%) are keen to attend a similar event in the future. As Anne-Marie Daley, of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “It was an excellent night and I am looking forward to the next one.”
