Successful Ambassadors course prompts new training date

A recent “Ambassadors” course was such a success that another one is already scheduled. The two-day Ambassadors programme,  organised by Glasgow Service with Style and delivered by Springboard, offered innovative training with the aim of enabling motivated people within hospitality, leisure and tourism to become special promoters of careers in their own businesses and the tourism sector as a whole.

The recent course was attended by a host of enthusiastic chefs from businesses such as Rogano and Hilton, and many have now made it their mission to spread the word about the exciting jobs and career opportunities within their own profession.

Stella Callaghan, of GSWS, said: “The Ambassadors course is a fantastic initiative. It has already been successful in teaching our motivated employees how to gain communication and presentation skills, as well as the confidence to go out and spread the message in schools and colleges about the very real opportunities, jobs and careers available in tourism.”

Now another Ambassadors training course has been announced and tourism employers are being encouraged to put forward a range of their employees, including chefs and housekeeping staff, for this specialist training. The two-day course is open to all motivated staff across the tourism sector and will take place on 15 & 16 February at the Hilton Glasgow.

The course includes training in presentation skills and is supported by a resource pack, as well as materials on careers in Scottish Tourism.

Ambassadors should be willing to commit to working with local schools, colleges and other target groups following the course, and to provide feedback on their visits.

The key skills gained include:

            •            An ability to present well to a variety of audiences

            •            Advice and guidance skills

            •            Increased understanding of the Hospitality, Leisure & Tourism Industry.

The cost of the course would normally be £240 per delegate, but thanks to funding from Skills Development Scotland it is being offered free of charge next month. There will however be a cancellation fee for those who register and do not turn up.
