Surprise degree for head of Scottish hospitality charity

05 Jan 2011

Chief Executive of the Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland was stunned to be honoured with an honorary degree from a top European university last month.

David Cochrane received the special accolade from the prestigious Glion Institute of Higher Education in Switzerland.

His honorary degree in International Hospitality Management was given in recognition for his work with HIT Scotland.

Following the award ceremony, David, who has been invited to Switzerland to give a talk to the graduates of Glion, said: “I was just expecting a small thank you at the end of the ceremony and the honorary degree was a real surprise. I am very grateful and humbled by the award."

He added: "It is important to Scottish hospitality to see what the rest of the world is doing and learn from the best."

David's hard work for the charity doesn't stop here, however. For the chief executive will be joined by 19 other professionals in a fundraising attempt to hold the first ever Burns Supper on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro later this month.
