Take up the Buddy Day opportunity

16 Feb 2012

Following the success of the previous Glasgow Service with Style-led Buddy Day, next month will see the launch of another Buddy Day event. In conjunction with Skills Development Scotland and Springboard Scotland, Glasgow Service with Style is offering the chance for hospitality industry employees and career hopefuls to gain valuable hands-on work experience for a day.

On Wednesday March 7, Buddy Day could be your chance to find out more about a wide variety of jobs in the industry and learn more about what they involve and the skills required. A host of establishments will take part including leading tourism attractions, hotels and restaurants.

Buddy Day is also suitable for people who influence career choice, including parents, teachers, lecturers, careers advisors, Jobcentre Plus staff, and other industry partners – or anyone who would like to “try out” a new career for the day.

This week, Stella Callaghan, project manager at GSWS, said: “We have had so much positive feedback from the previous Buddy Day that we know this will be a popular opportunity.

“Everyone gains so much from the chance to shadow an employee, and they learn a new set of skills that could easily benefit them in their future careers.

"We would encourage managers and leaders to suggest the Buddy Day to their staff, and also to think about this as an opportunity for businesses to share best practice among others by hosting a Buddy."

If you would like to join in and become a Buddy for a day, or if you are a business that is interested in hosting a Buddy, please contact Amanda McDade at Springboard Scotland at amandam@springboarduk.org.uk

Placements are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
