Tourism employers encouraged to sign up for Modern Apprenticeships

23 Nov 2010

The Scottish Government is pledging thousands of pounds of training support for school and college leavers. The Modern Apprenticeships funding initiative is aimed at helping young people into recruitment and fulfilling their career potential.

Now employers in the Tourism and Hospitality industry are being encouraged to take part in the government’s innovative Employer Recruitment Incentive. For every Modern Apprenticeship that a business creates the government will provide £1000 towards the training of the young person.

With competition high for jobs and training places in the current marketplace, your company could find itself helping a 16 to 19-year-old with an opportunity to make a better future for themselves.

This incentive is open to young people who may otherwise find it difficult to secure a job or Modern Apprenticeship.

To take advantage of the £1000 funding for training, employers must:

  • Employ a young person aged between 16 and 19.
  • Allow their new employee to undertake a recognised Modern Apprenticeship framework delivered by Skills Development Scotland (SDS)
  • Ensure the job role relates to level 2-3 industry requirements.

The management of the Modern Apprenticeship is carried out by the training provider, which means as a company owner or manager you will not be responsible for any additional administration.
