Volunteer grants available

21 Apr 2011

Volunteering can be of great benefit to businesses. Offering staff the chance to volunteer for a range of projects helps to improve staff morale and motivation. Being seen as a volunteer-friendly organisation is also great for your reputation in the wider industry.

So why not take advantage of two Wave of Friendship programmes that offer bursaries to people who take up a volunteering experience?

The two volunteer programmes are:

* London/Scotland: Bursaries of up to £500 in expenses to encourage volunteering between Scotland and London.

* Scotland only: Bursaries of up to £100 in expenses to encourage volunteers in Scotland to take up a volunteering experience in another part of the country.

What is the Wave of Friendship?

The Wave of Friendship is a volunteer exchange programme that encourages and supports the exchange of volunteers between Scotland and London. Volunteers can apply for bursaries of up to £500 to cover travel, accommodation and other costs involved in the exchange.

Volunteers can choose any opportunity that takes place between now and September 2012 that demonstrates one or more of these values: Friendship, Respect, Courage, Determination, Equality and Inspiration.

There are many suitable opportunities and these could include providing support for an event, carrying out an assignment or volunteering for a set time, rather than an ongoing commitment.

To find out more about the volunteering opportunities and bursaries see The Wave of Friendship.

The application process is very simple and all kinds of volunteering experiences qualify. It’s possible to apply as an individual, with a friend or as a group.

So far, bursaries have been awarded for conservation, arts, fundraising and event volunteering roles.
